1. What is casing in drilling?

Casing is a series of steel pipes that are run into a drilled oil well to stabilize the well, keep contaminants and water out of the oil stream, and prevent oil from leaching into the groundwater. Casing is installed in layers, in sections of decreasing diameter that are joined together to form casing strings.

2. What is the difference between HDD and Microtunneling?

Microtunnelling is a pit-launched technique with extreme accuracy and low risk, but it has a high upfront cost. One the other hand, HDD is surface launched, making it cheaper than microtunnelling. However, it has a higher risk as it is less precise and there is a risk of flex along the pipeline.
